Private Tour to the Scottish Borders from Edinburgh

Visit Dryburgh & Melrose Abbeys, plus Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott

About

The Borders boasts four magnificent ruined Medieval abbeys which date back to the 12th century: Jedburgh, Kelso, Melrose & Dryburgh. We will visit both Dryburgh, the burial place of Sir Walter Scott, and Melrose with it's romantic cloisters and grounds, where a recently discovered casket is believed to contain the heart of Robert the Bruce.

The picturesque town of Melrose is located next to the Eildon Hills and is the birthplace of Rugby Sevens. Take a stroll through this delightful town, unmissable for a touch of retail therapy!

Enjoy a traditional pub lunch.

Around 3 miles west of Melrose, on the banks of the Tweed is Sir Walter Scott's romantic mansion of Abbotsford. This magnificent house and spectacular gardens are spectacular and very, very special. Our visit to the former home of Sir Walter Scott will live long in your memory. It's STUNNING.

Highlights

Shortly after leaving Edinburgh, will drive through the magnificent scenery of the Scottish Borders, a region defined as much by the landscape as it is by its spellbinding abbeys, awe-inspiring stately homes and castles, and the time-honoured and truly unique Common Ridings. These lands inspired the works of literary greats like Sir Walter Scott and John Buchan.

We will visit two of the famous 12th C Border Abbeys, both of which are steeped in history, drama and mystery. Dryburgh is possibly the most romantic of the four Abbeys, famous as the final resting please of Sir Walter Scott, one of my great heroes.

Melrose Abbey is probably the most famous ruin in Scotland. The abbey was founded by David I in 1136 for the Cistercian Order, and it was largely destroyed by Richard II's English army in 1385.

Wander through this delightful, exclusive small town and indulge in a delicious lunch in a typical Scottish Pub.
